About Us
Carol Garvey, M.D., M.P.H.
Dr. Carol Wilson Garvey joined the Board of Proyecto Salud in 2003. She was Montgomery County's Health Officer from 1995 to 2003, and prior to becoming Health Officer, she practiced family medicine in Montgomery County for over two decades. She is also a founder and board member of the Primary Care Coalition of Montgomery County, the organization that is administering Montgomery Cares. She has served as Chair from December 2009 – May 2012
Dr. Garvey also chaired the board of the Montgomery County Collaboration Council for Children, Youth and Families, which oversees public and private services for children and identifies and works to fill gaps in services, from December 2004 – December 2008. She has served on the advisory board of the Center for Health Disparities Research and Education of the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences and on Adventist HealthCare’s Blue Ribbon Panel on Health Disparities. She is a Senior Technical Advisor to Montgomery County's Latino Health Initiative and belongs to the African American Health Program's Infant Mortality Coalition. She has also served on the Health Policy Committee of Advocates for Children and Youth.
Born and raised in Baltimore, Dr. Garvey received a B.A. from Radcliffe College, an M.D. from Columbia University, and an M.P.H. from Harvard University. She and her physician husband have one son who practices internal medicine outside of Boston, Massachusetts.
